We want every guest — regardless of age, disability, or assistive technology — to use our website effortlessly. This statement is voluntary and follows the Swiss Federal Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG) as well as the recommendations of the Federal Commission for the Equality of Persons with Disabilities, and aligns — where applicable — with EU Directive 2016/2102 (EAA, not mandatory for private Swiss hotels but used as a benchmark).
Conformance level
The website belle-epoque.ch has been designed and developed in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We additionally consider WCAG 2.2 recommendations (as of April 2026).
What we have implemented
- Semantic HTML, clear heading hierarchy, ARIA labels on interactive elements
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators
- Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text
- All images carry meaningful alt text
- Page language declared via the lang attribute (DE/FR/EN)
- Reduce-motion support — animations disabled with prefers-reduced-motion
- No content that can trigger seizures (no flashing > 3 Hz)
- Layout scalable to 200 % zoom without horizontal scrolling
- Booking forms with clear labels, error messages and status updates
Known limitations
We are a boutique-sized property. We are continuously improving the following points:
- Embedded map (Google Maps iFrame) has limited screen-reader usability — full address provided next to it as text.
- Third-party booking tool (direct-book.com) follows the provider's conformance status — reservations by phone and email remain available.
- PDF attachments (seasonal menus) are not yet fully accessible.
On site at the hotel
Hotel Belle Époque sits in a protected historic building subject to Bern UNESCO old-town heritage rules. Wheelchair accessibility is not guaranteed in all room types. Please contact us before booking — we advise individually and can recommend a suitable alternative within the Private Selection Hotels family.

This statement was created on 25 April 2026. Evaluation combined automated tests (axe-core, Lighthouse, WAVE) with manual checks using screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA) and keyboard navigation. Reviewed at least annually.
